Dare to be Vulnerable: A transformation story

Jenny was in turmoil. She had recently walked away from a major career. One that had provided her with a great deal of stability and safety. “It was my armor,” she said, and without this daily protection, she suddenly felt unmoored.

The decision to enroll in Unlocking Your Potential felt like a possible way through uncharted waters. She had found herself faced with a great deal of emotion that had been quieted by the noise and the hustle of her busy career. “I get triggered a lot,” Jenny stated, “and I’ve always thought one day this is all hopefully going to end, and I’m gonna be healed, but that’s just not the way it works.”

Hearing Dr. Eger’s story of grief and resilience helped Jenny feel less alone. She was able to see how powerful vulnerability can truly be, which allowed her to reimagine her attitude toward her own growth. “Now I can look at those things that triggered me and reframe them,” she said. The more she explored, the more she understood that she was capable of having “more of an authentic type of life” where she could “put a lot of that behind me.” This was a pivotal revelation for Jenny, as it is impossible to imagine what you cannot see.

By literally seeing herself in the mirror, as one of the modules recommends doing, Jenny was able to extend compassion to herself. “It’s helping me take a look at myself and realize that I’m enough,” she reflected.

Ultimately, for Jenny, this process was about facing and integrating the challenges and emotional complexities of her life. It was about learning to trust herself anew.
